About Mustang Mission

Mustang Mission focuses on rescuing mustangs and burros from slaughter, those in danger of being sent to slaughter (3-strikes mustangs and mustangs at livestock auctions), and from neglectful situations.  We provide the best, natural care to these animals and place them in loving homes.  Since so many people in the East Coast have never heard about the mustangs and burros living in the West, one of Mustang Mission’s main goals is to bring awareness to the East about mustangs and burros and educate our community on the challenges they face.  A very important part of Mustang Mission is advocating for the mustangs and burros still living in the wild and for them to remain in the wild.

All mustangs and burros are gentled and trained without fear, pain, or intimidation, using liberty techniques and positive reinforcement training.  After the mustangs are trained, they will be offered for adoption to the best homes!*

In the near future, we hope to provide a small sanctuary where older mustangs and mustangs that are harder to train can live the rest of their lives in peace and freedom.

*Before the mustangs or burros go to their new homes, I work with the potential adopters and visit the potential home, too.  Adopters must sign an agreement that they will never sell the mustang or burro and that they must return the horse to Mustang Mission if they can no longer care for it.

About the Founder & Director, Erin Phillips

As a Christian, and knowing that God created and loves animals (Luke 12:6) and placed them into our care, has led Erin into several different paths as an advocate for wildlife.  Ever since she can remember, Erin has always loved horses.  When she was younger, she fell in love with mustangs through the Cloud: The Wild Stallion of the Rockies documentaries.  Erin began learning more about the plight of the mustangs a few years ago, which led her to get more involved with the issue.  In 2018, she started volunteering for The Cloud Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and protecting wild horses and burros.

Recently, Erin has been learning the liberty and positive reinforcement method of training horses (learn more about this method).  These techniques are used in training the mustangs.

Erin is also a wildlife photographer (view her work) and enjoys spending time in God’s beautiful creation.  A portion of the proceeds from her photography store are donated to The Cloud Foundation and Mustang Mission.

Our Mission

To rescue wild equines in dangerous, neglectful, and abusive situations in an effort to preserve, protect, and acknowledge a national icon – and part of God’s creation – while educating the public on the plight of these animals.  Mustang Mission will advocate for wild equines in the wild and work with other organizations to keep them free.
