A Tale of Two Horses

Image
Within my mustang herd is a tiny horse with a big attitude - Cloud. Cloud has been my constant companion for nearly thirteen years. When I was just seven, my parents (not knowing that older horses are better for younger people) bought me Cloud, who was a spunky, headstrong five-month-old colt. He was (and still is) very spicy! Unfortunately, none of us realized that horses need companions of their own species, so Cloud lived by himself next to an assortment of farm animals for almost eleven years. However, he still had a fun life as I spent a lot of time with him every day and took him for long walks. I'm sure that when Alamo jumped off the trailer onto our property he couldn't believe his eyes. He did not know what he was in for! Since then, Cloud has been the first horse to meet each mustang, and I plan to keep it that way. When he meets a gelding, he does his best to strike an intimidating pose, kicking and screaming at them. It seems like an attempt to establish his dominan

Ember says "Happy New Year" to all of you!  She is enjoying her training sessions and has been learning a lot of new things, including wearing a surcingle.  Long lining/ground driving comes next!

May God bless you abundantly during this holiday season. Thank you so much for your support and kindness throughout this past year. Happy Thanksgiving! Today we are giving thanks for you! Thanks to you, two lives were saved this past year. I hope you know how grateful we are for your support! I am so thankful to God for all that He has done to make this mustang rescue possible. There have been many times when I couldn't solve a problem, but God stepped in and made everything work out! Lastly, I am thankful for my mustangs. They have been a huge blessing in my life! Starting this mustang rescue has not been easy, but they have made it all worth it. What are you thankful for? If you have the time, I’d love to hear back from you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. ~Erin, Alamo, + Ember “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,  and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting;  and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psalm 100:4-5)

Sweet Ember is coming along so fast in her training.  I'm really looking forward to starting her under saddle very soon!  If anyone has a pony-sized saddle that they'd like to donate, please let me know!

Alamo went on his first trail walk recently!  This mustang has really let go of a lot of his fears, especially when he realized he is in control of every situation he experiences.  Even though he had a halter on for this walk, there was never a rope attached.  He chose to stay with me the entire time.  The relationship you have with a mustang isn't like any other horse.   I'm blessed and honored to be a part of Alamo's journey. 🌟

We've been having some beautiful pre-hurricane weather - gorgeous sunsets, lots of wind, and cool temperatures.  The horses are especially pleased about the lack of bugs! We are very blessed to be just on the edge of the hurricane, but we're keeping all those affected in our thoughts and prayers.  Please do the same!
